The Dow Chemical Company, founded in 1897 by Herbert H. Dow, is one of the oldest and today the 2nd largest chemical company worldwide. Dow started its first plastics production in 1935 (Ethocel ethylcellulose resins) and in 1937 with the production of Polystyrene.
Today Dow is active in 160 countries in several defined high growth sectors such as electronics, water, energy, coatings and agriculture. In 2011, Dow had annual sales of $60 billion USD and employed approximately 52,000 people worldwide. Dow produces more than 5,000 products manufactured at 197 sites in 36 countries across the globe.
Dow’s biggest production facilities are located in Freeport/Texas. Since 1952 The Dow Chemical Company has been active in Europe. In 1974 Dow opened their European Head Quarters in Horgen/Switzerland. Today Dow’s major plastics production sites are located in Spain, The Netherlands, Belgium and in Germany. Technical Centres are located in Horgen/CH and Tarragona/ES for developmental and customer support.
Dow recently sold its Styrenic businesses to the company TRINSEO and the Polypropylene activities to BRASKEM. Dow’s current main activities in plastics are related to the segment “Performance Plastics“ and are split into several divisions.

RESINEX cooperation with Dow is based on a fundamental partnership across Europe (including Turkey) for the distribution of Dow`s plastic materials. Starting in the early nineties in the Benelux area, RESINEX is today the Pan-European Distribution partner for Dow plastics with offices all over Europe, a local sales force and local warehouses.
