Arnite® (PBT, PET, and blends) are high-performance engineering plastics that combine high strength and rigidity with excellent processing characteristics.
As a result, Arnite® PBT and PET are well suited for a broad range of automotive, electrical/electronic, appliance and industrial equipment applications.
General info
Key properties of Arnite® PBT and PET:
- Extremely low water absorption
- Exceptional dimensional stability
- High strength & stiffness, also at ambient conditions
- Very good heat and heat aging resistance
- Excellent electrical properties
- Excellent colour stability
- Good surface gloss
- Excellent resistance to chemical attack
- Excellent wear properties
Mechanical Properties
Arnite® PBT compounds have very comparable mechanical properties to PA6 compounds in their dry state. However, upon conditioning under ambient conditions Arnite® PBT holds its rigidity, while the stiffness of PA6 is greatly reduced due to its large water uptake.
Dimensional Stability
Arnite® PBT and PET compounds exhibit very low moisture absorption, making them ideal for parts that require high dimensional accuracy for the life of the part. PBT compounds absorb far less than 0.5% water over a period of several thousand hours in ambient conditions.
Long-term properties
Polyesters have excellent high temperature thermal and oxidative stability. UL RTI listings of continuous use temperatures are generally 130-140°C for most grades. For PET even values of 150°C are found for the RTI electric.
Furthermore, special UV stabilised grades are available which have excellent outdoor weather resistance.
Electrical properties
Arnite® thermoplastic polyesters have excellent electrical properties, even at elevated temperatures. In general the dielectric strength will be higher than for polyamides. The tracking index CTI is > 600 V for unfilled non-FR grades, and in general > 400 V for glass fibre reinforced grades. Even for flame retardant grades, CTI values above 400 V are available. Polyesters have excellent retention of electrical properties, even at high temperatures and in humid conditions.
